While many perceive medicine during the American Civil War as primitive and appalling compared to the present, there were actually important changes happening to medicine at that time, and the war influenced various medical innovations. Civil War Medicine in a Box will present the state of medicine before, during, and after the war through the display of artifacts and documents. The loss of life due to diseases and infections were high during the war, but without some new approaches to medicine the losses could have been even worse. Civil War Medicine in a Box will leave you with a greater appreciation for the efforts of the men and women who devoted themselves to saving lives during the Civil War, and a greater appreciation for modern medicine. — Gary Emerson
